Esemir si occupa di failure analysis,cioè dello studio del degrado e della rottura di un materiale, finalizzato a determinarne le cause ed i metodi per evitarlo. Il laboratorio è specializzato anche nella caratterizzazione microstrutturale dei materiali.Tra i vari strumenti, Esemir dispone di un microscopio elettronico a scansione (SEM) con microanalisi EDS. Opportunità unica per il cliente è la possibilità di partecipare alle osservazioni al SEM, quando la tipologia del problema in studio lo rende possibile.
Fenomenologie tipiche di indagine sono la corrosione e le rotture, sia di materiali metallici che plastici. Le tecniche a disposizione permettono anche l’esame di campioni di polveri e la caratterizzazione di metalli e leghe, anche con riferimento ai trattamenti termici o superficiali subiti.
Fondata nel 2000, sulla base di un’esperienza già acquisita nell’arco di 15 anni, Esemir annovera tra i suoi Clienti aziende di settori molto diversi, grazie alla versatilità delle tecniche disponibili.
Paolo Battaini, titolare di Esemir, laureato in ingegneria nucleare indirizzo materiali al Politecnico di Milano, è specializzato nell’uso delle tecniche di microscopia elettronica e nella failure analysis. Come responsabile del laboratorio è stato consulente tecnico di parte in ambito giudiziario, anche in casi di rilievo, come la vicenda “Unabomber”. Ha collaborato con numerosi consulenti tecnici o periti, su tematiche diverse, sia penali che civili. Esperto di metalli preziosi, è stato insignito del titolo di “Honorary Ambassador of the Santa Fe Symposium – Albuquerque USA” e dal 2005 tiene il corso di “Tecnologie di Lavorazione dei Metalli Preziosi” presso il dipartimento di Scienza dei Materiali dell’università di Milano Bicocca. E’ responsabile ricerca e sviluppo presso un’importante azienda milanese del settore metalli preziosi.

A scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an EDS microanalysis system are just a part of the analytical instruments of the laboratory. Furthermore, the clients have the unique chance to take part in SEM observations, when the case under investigation allows it.
Typical analyses are the corrosion and rupture of both metallic and plastic materials. In addition to this, the available techniques allow the examination of powders and the characterization of metals and alloys, taking into account possible thermal or surface treatments undergone by the material.

Authority on precious metals, he has been conferred the title of “Honorary Ambassador of the Santa Fe Symposium – Albuquerque USA”. He has been lecturer in the course ‘Working Technologies of Precious Metals’ at the Faculty of Material Science of Milan Bicocca University since 2005. He is also responsible for the Research and Development department of an important company in Milan in the field of precious metals.
