This page shows an image of the bristle blowball at the end of an achene's peduncle of the Tarassacum Officinalis. The image was obtained with a water vapour pressure of 1.1 Torr into the analysis chamber of the ESEM XL30 TMP Philips Electron Microscope. The specimen was observed without prior treatment. The small marker at the right bottom of the image represents a length of 100 µm (0.1 mm).To buy a 300 dpi image.

The image shows the achen of Taraxacum Officinalis, with their small white tufts. The arrow indicates the place where the ESEM image was acquired, that is the point of insertion of the small tuft in the achene.
