In this page you can see the image of a multilayered pictorial section of a wooden cross. The image was obtained with a water vapour pressure of 0.9 Torr into the analysis chamber of the ESEM XL30 TMP Philips Electron Microscope. The small marker at the right bottom of the image represents a length of 200 µm (0.2 mm). The pictorial section was observed with no prior treatment. Particularly, it is not necessary to make the specimen conductive. The further high magnification observation and microanalysis allow getting information about the painting techniques and the nature of applied pigments.
